2016 Manpower Employment Outlook Survey Results

The 2016 Manpower Employment Outlook Survey asked one question to 1,900 employers across Canada: “How do you anticipate total employment at your location to change in the three months to the end of March 2016 as compared to the current quarter?” The responses from Canadian employers show that they anticipate a moderate hiring climate for the first quarter of 2016.
Here is a snapshot of the 2016 Manpower Employment Outlook Survey Results:
Employers’ plans for the first quarter of 2016
- 9% plan to increase staffing
- 7% expect cutbacks
- 81% expect their current staffing levels to remain the same
- 3 % are unsure about their hiring intentions
Hiring intentions by region
- Atlantic Canada Net Employment Outlook 10%
- Quebec – Net Employment Outlook 5%
- Ontario – Net Employment Outlook 8%
- Western Canada – Net Employment Outlook 7%
Hiring intentions by organization size
- Large (250+ employees) – Net Employment Outlook 13%
- Medium (50-249 employees) – Net Employment Outlook 14%
- Small (10-49 employees) – Net Employment Outlook 4%
- Micro (1-9 employees) – Net Employment Outlook 3%

Transportation & Public Utilities
Net Employment Outlook of 15% | 2% up from the previous quarter | 3% up from last year
Manufacturing – Durables
Net Employment Outlook of 12% | 5% up from the previous quarter | 2% down from last year
Construction
Net Employment Outlook of 12% | 6% up from the previous quarter | 2% up from last year
Wholesale & Retail Trade
Net Employment Outlook of 11% | 2% down from the previous quarter | 2% up from last year
