International Student Advisor, Career Development

University of Alberta International |
Edmonton, AB, Canada | Full Time

Reporting to the Associate Director – International Student Services (ISS), the International Student Advisor – Career Development (ISA-Career) is primarily responsible for designing strategies and programs that will improve post-graduation career outcomes of UAlberta international students. The ISA-Career contributes to ISS objectives by:

  • Determining the career goals of international students and the barriers or challenges that prevent them from achieving these goals
  • Developing programming, in collaboration with campus service providers, to support students career path identification and development
  • Advising students.

The ISA-Career will determine the gap between students’ employment expectations and outcomes and develop strategies to enhance the achievement of students’ desired post-graduate employment goals. This will include supporting students who are seeking careers in Canada or in their home countries. The primary focus will be on undergraduate students.

Improving international student employability outcomes is critical to meeting the expectations of international students and requires strategies and programs that engage students from the start of their studies such that long term goals upon graduation are achievable.

A high level of initiative and self-direction, a strong desire to help students find success after graduation and an ability to work collaboratively across campus are critical characteristics of the successful incumbent.
