CPC’s Career Development Practitioner (CDP) courses are ideal if you want to update your competencies, working towards your provincial/territorial Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) designation, and want prepare to apply for your Career Professionals of Canada (CPC) Certifications.

Across Canada, the Career Development field is evolving and processes are becoming formalized. Career practitioners across the nation have adopted the Canadian Competency Framework for Career Development Professionals.

According to Sareena Hopkins of the Canadian Council for Career Development (3CD), “Certification raises the bar for our field, demonstrating to our employers, funders, policy makers, and the public that our work is grounded in professional excellence. It operationalizes the competency standards and ethical guidelines that were established through the S&Gs.”

Many provinces have already launched certification programs for Career Development Practitioners (CDPs). Not every province/territory offers CCDP certification. However, some are well established and others are well underway. Currently, certification is mandatory for Career Counsellors in Québec. Voluntary certification for career development practitioners is in place in AlbertaBritish ColumbiaNew Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Ontario. To be inclusive of established practitioners, provinces have instituted “grandparenting” provisions.

The Certified Career Development Professional / Practitioner (CCDP) is under the jurisdiction of provincial/territorial Career Development associations/boards. Practitioners have embraced the need for professionalism in their field by registering with their respective provincial/territorial association and other associations such as Career Professionals of Canada.
